 Nagrody Instytutu Matematycznego PAN i Nagrody Naukowej im. Mikołaja Kopern
 ika, a w lipcu wygłosi wykład sekcyjny na Międzynarodowym Kongresie Matemat
 yków w Filadelfii.\n\nBadania prof. Mirka koncentrują się na analizie harmo
 nicznej i teorii ergodycznej, a ich wyniki publikowane są m.in. w „Annals o
 f Mathematics" i „Inventiones Mathematicae".\n\nWszystkich zainteresowanych

 amy!\n\n\n\nAbstract: In the early 1980s, Alexandra Bellow, motivated by so
 me equidistribution problems, asked whether the pointwise ergodic theorem h
 olds for ergodic averages with orbits along squares of any other polynomial
  with integer coefficients. The same problem was posed by Furstenberg, who 
 approached it from a combinatorial perspective. This problem was affirmativ
 ely solved by Bourgain in the late 1980s by employing tools from Fourier an
 alysis and using the circle method from number theory. Immediately afterwar
 d, Bourgain attempted to adapt his methods to the multiparameter variant of
  the Bellow-Furstenberg problem, but it turned out to be very complicated, 
 and there has been little progress on this problem since that time until re
 cently. The purpose of this talk will be to report on recent advancements r
 egarding the multiparameter variant of the Bellow-Furstenberg problem. \n\n
