Faculty of Applied Mathematics

Mathematics has been taught at the AGH University of Science and Technology since the foundation of the university. The first Rector of the University of Mining was a mathematician, Professor Antoni Hoborski. In 1969 the three Departments of Mathematics and the Department of Descriptive Geometry were joined to form the Institute of Mathematics. By the decision of the Senate on November 1, 1997, the Institute of Mathematics was transformed into the Faculty of Applied Mathematics. Since 1998 the Faculty has been teaching students studing for a degree in mathematics. Teaching and research are the principal activities of mathematicians employed at AGH.
